Wat is it?
Chandeliers made entirely out of repurposed old bike parts, are a nifty combination of interior decor and creative upcycling.  

Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value.

Why it is cool? 
It's amazing how beautiful en luxurious these chandeliers are, despite they're made of old bikes. These chandeliers don't look old. This is an perfect example beautiful upcycling could be.
But there is more. The designer, Carolina Fontoura Alzaga tries to avoid the world of excess. Everyday billions of new things are brought into the world when perfectly useful things already exist and the problem is that there are finite resources. Through her art and donations from her profits she's making this a better world for us and future generations.

Eco washball

Wat is it?
It is a washball of environmentally friendly polypropylene plastic. The ball is filled with ceramic balls, together with a bit of soap your laundry will be clean.

Woodland burial

Wat is it?

A sustainable lifestyle even after death. Woodland burial makes it possible.The goal of a natural burial is to return the body to the earth in a manner that does not inhibit decomposition and allows the body to recycle naturally. People are buried in biodegradable materials. The box is made of wood from well managed forests, woven cane or banana leaves, or even cardboard. Chemicals for the finish, like lacquer, paint and adhesives are avoided. And of course the case is not covered with the usual synthetic fabrics, most with organic cotton. This boxes are buried in a natural environment and the graves are often no more than a boulder.

Why it is cool? 

The woodland burial is the ultimate proof of a sustainable lifestyle. Even after your death you make a contribution to a sustainable world. It is also very poetic because people unite with nature.

Wat is it?
When I visited Amsterdam for AIFW I bumped into a very nice shop called Guus. Here they sell premium products that are sustainable.With respect for the environment produced and also beautiful, useful, fun and affordable. A variety of products: Laptop Covers, jewelry, furniture you name it.

Why it is cool?
Off course we all love nice things, but now a days sustainability becomes more and more important. People are willing to buy sustainable products, but not at the expense of the design. Guus responds to this need.
